  forr violino, viola e contrabbasso (2023)

dedicated to the book "De salubri potu dissertatio" by Francesco Scacchi, an imagination using 1622 musical elements about the evolution progress of the bubbles of the sparkling wine. The premiere took place on December 8th 2023 during Richiami Lontani happening of Francesco Scacchi Festival. Lorenzo Sbaffi, violin, Ladislao Vieni viola and Fausto Patassi double bass.

Composed upon commission of the Cultural Association “Maestro Rodolfo Lipizer” onlus

 as required by the 38th International Violin Competition “Rodolfo Lipizer Prize” 2019.

The premiere took place on 10th September 2019 during the semifina round of the competition and on 15th September 2019 in public concert at L. Bratuz Hall in Gorizia (Italy), violin Issei Kurihara.

Elegie
for alto solo "among olive branches" (2009)

The piece is dedicated to the violist Ladislao Vieni, who performed for the first time in Oratorio della Carità, Fabriano An, in 2009 September 11th.

 

Concerto

for stings orchestra (2009)

Composed in the traditionas style of the Concerto, divided in three moviments: Moderato, Adagio and Vivace. The first performance was in the Vaasa City hall (Finland), in 2012 March 21th, and in "Gentile" theater, Fabriano (Italy) in 2012 April 1st. Vaasa City Orchestra, conductor Jorma Panula.

for choir and organ (2008)

 

Stones From Reposaari
for string quartet (2008)

Stones from Repossari, wrote in summer 2008, is dedicated to the friends Jauko and Mirja with their nice museum of stones in Reposaari (Finland). The four moviments are: an unexpected day, ghosts in the museum, the east side and coming by boat.

 

Canzonetta
for soprano, baroque cello, harpsichord and orchestra (2008)

The piece is inspired by a song of Bartolomeo Barbarino, musicians lived between XVI and XVII century. The ancient notes of the song combines with the dust of the time until nowadays. The first performance was in "Gentile" theater, Fabriano AN, in 2008 September 26th. Soloists: Alessandra Ceciarelli soprano, Edoardo Sbaffi baroque cello, Paolo Devito harpsichord.  Bartolomeo Barbarino Orchestra, conductor Lorenzo Sbaffi.

 

Circa
for sax quartet (2007)

Wrote for the students of the Youth Barbarino Orchestra that Lorenzo Sbaffi conducts from 2000. The first performance was in the festival “Ostra prendiamoci gusto” in “Azienda vinicola Mezzanotte Sandrino” (Senigallia) in June 1th 2007. The interpreters were: Danilo Ruffini sopran sax, Stefano Ensabella alto sax, Giuseppe de Maria tenor sax, Andrea Gubinelli bariton sax.

 

Tempo!
(Time!) for violin out of stage, a metronome and student orchestra without conductor (2006)

Tempo! Wrote in memory of the violinist Alma Vecchi, dead in January 2006. The violin out of stage is the symbol of absence, the metronome gives the time that goes between “right” and “wrong” during the piece. In fact, the interpreters starting from the soloist violin, play sections out of time. So the fundamental element is the worry of all musicians to play in time. The first performance took place in the “musica insieme” festival in “Teatro MISA” of Arcevia (Ancona) in April 2006.

 

Sei solo
for solo trombone (2006)

Sei solo has six movements. It is a game around the double meaning expressed by the italian title. (Sei solo means both “six solos” and “you are alone”).The movements are:A solo, Solamente, Lasciato solo, Assolutamente (solo), Lasciatemi solo, Rimasto solo. The interpreter is alone, only with the friendship of his foot ( in Solamente), and of a wood-chimes (in Assolutamente solo). The piece is dedicated to the trombonist Massimo Gianangeli, who performed for the first time in the festival “Ostra prendiamoci gusto” in “Azienda vinicola Mezzanotte Sandrino” (Senigallia) in June 1st 2007.

 

Il villaggio deserto
(The desert village) six visions for student orchestra without conductor (2005)

The desert village born as a didact study for the Barbarino Youth Orchestra that Lorenzo Sbaffi conducts from 2000. The piece is inspired by the Achill Island in Nord-West of Irland Republic, where there is a desert village visited by the autor during a trip. The first performance took place in the “musica insieme” festival in “Teatro MISA” of Arcevia (Ancona) in May 22nd 2005.

 

Requiem
“to the death souls of livings” (2005)

The requiem for solos, choir and orchestra, wrote in a voices and organ version too, was born for the autor’s interest in the latin text of mass, in particular the Dies Irae sequence. The writing comes from Gregorian music and searches the trasparence without the romantic emphasis typical of this kind of composition. Music at the service of the words, as an authentic search to sing the prayer. The first performance was in "Gentile" theater, Fabriano AN during the  "I Concerti del Gentile" Symphonic Season, in 2009 April 2nd. Soloists: Alessandra Ceciarelli soprano, Elisa Morelli mezzosoprano, Gabriele Mangione tenor,  Dong Il Jang bariton. "E Pluribus Unum" choir,  FORM-Filarmonica Marchigiana Orchestra, conductor Lorenzo Sbaffi.

 

Para lo Chiado
(For Chiado) for violin and cello (2005)

Chiado is the old neighbourhood of Lisbon. The short composition is wrote for the concert of Lorenzo (violin) and his brother Edoardo Sbaffi (cello) for the 60th anniversary of Culture National Center of Lisbon May 16th 2005. So the first performance was by the autor in St. Sacramento church of Chiado, Lisbon, Portugal.

for mezzosoprano, choir and organ (2004)

 

Ave Maria
for choir, violin and organ (2004)

This Ave Maria is dedicated to the choir “Colombati” of Pergola (Pesaro).

 

Sonata 1
for violin and piano (2004)

Wrote in four movement : Moderato, Adagietto, Tempo di minuetto-minuetto sbagliato in stile di Haydn (wrong minuetto in Haydn’s style), Finale-Vivace. The sonata is made to commission with “Terra dei Teatri” of Macerata and performed by Serena Cavalletti (violin) and Stefano Severini (piano) in the concert “L’oggi, il sentimento del tempo”, the August 11th 2004 in Chiostro dei Frati of Montefano (Macerata). Also the autor Lorenzo Sbaffi with the pianist Alessia Mortaloni performed it for “Amici della Musica” of Fabriano in the same summer.

 

Poema sinfonico n. 1
Symphonic Poem n. 1(2003)

The poem has been written originally for the final examination of the autor’s composition studies in summer 2003. In 2005 he re-elaborated with the broadening of instrumentation.

 

Comunicazione I
for trombone and piano (2003)

The piece is a communication between trombone and piano starting from the idea of an internet connection. The sound of the modem while connecting to internet is in fact the incipit of piano. At the first time the trombone replays busy but then goes progressively in communication. The trombonist Massimo Gianangeli with the pianist Alessia Mortaloni made the first performance in “sala L. Ubaldi” of Fabriano (Ancona) March 20th 2004.

 

S-comunicazione I
for n equal instruments (2003)

Wrote for “n” instruments it was performed for the first time with four trombones in the concert of March 20th 2004 in “Sala L. Ubaldi” of Fabriano (Ancona). The composition is the result of fragments, ideas for a given time improvisation following a free sequence for every interpreter. Each one starts and finishes the execution independently from the others.

(string quartet n. 1) homage to Leos Janacek (2002)

Wrote during the composition studies is dedicated to the cech composer. A research work, a knowledge trip through the string quartet form.
